More Open Houses and Public Forum Set for Bridge Street School

Suffield officials and residents are still looking to determine the fate of the nearly 90-year-old school building.

Two more open houses and a public forum have been scheduled concerning the long-closed Bridge Street School, as town officials again look to the public to help decide the future of the decaying structure.

Open houses are set for Thursday, April 25, 7-9 p.m., and Saturday, April 27, 9 a.m.-1 p.m.

The open house meetings will give Suffield residents the opportunity to visit the building and the property to familiarize themselves with the opportunities and issues. Suffield residents are encouraged to attend one of these open houses. The meetings are scheduled at different times and days to give all Suffield residents an opportunity to participate.

"The town is trying to determine the future of this vacant school building, and these open houses will give residents the opportunity to see the property first-hand," Patrick McMahon, Director of Economic and Community Development, said in an email.

A public forum on the Bridge Street School - “Suffield Speaks” - has been set for Tuesday, May 14 at Suffield High School, starting at 7 p.m.

“I think it is important for Suffield residents to have the chance to participate in a structured dialogue and approach about this important issue," First Selectman Ed McAnaney said in a news release.
