Boston Neck Road Bridge Closed Indefinitely

The one-lane bridge over Stony Brook on Boston Neck Road had a piece of its structure fall off Monday, rendering it unsafe for travel.

The one-lane bridge on Boston Neck Road, which spans Stony Brook, is closed until further notice due to a piece of the structure dislodging and falling.

The bridge was investigated by town engineer Gerry Turbet on Monday after he was advised that a sinkhole had formed near the east side of the bridge. Turbet found a piece of the bridge, where the end wall of the bridge meets one of the support beams, missing. A second piece appeared ready to break.

Suffield's highway department blocked off the bridge Monday afternoon. It is closed indefinitely.
