Suffield Couple Charged with Drug Offenses

A cooperative investigation between the Suffield Police Department and the United States Postal Inspection Service has resulted in the arrest of a couple charged with illegally obtaining marijuana via mail and selling it.

Lindsay E. Powell, 28, and Gabriel W. Austin, 38, both of 41 Mayflower Lane, Suffield, were charged last week with illegal manufacture, distribution, sale, prescription and administration of drugs. They were held on $100,000 court-set bond, and were arraigned in Enfield Superior Court.

Police say the couple had been repeatedly ordering marijuana from a supplier in California and having it mailed to Connecticut, where they subsequently sold it. The mailings took place between Sept. 2012 and Jan. 2013.

Execution of a search-and-seizure warrant at their home yielded over 3.9 kilograms of marijuana, with an estimated street value of $38,000. The raid also turned up drug paraphernalia, drug packaging materials and mailing labels, police said.

Powell and Austin are scheduled to return to court Apr. 18.
