Summer Fun in Suffield

Spending a day enjoying what Suffield has to offer can be as fun as a summer trip.

Suffield's open spaces, parks, farms, restaurants, businesses and other attractions can easily fill a day with seasonal fun and place minimal strain on your car, yourself, your time or your wallet.

Looking for more than the usual on-the-run breakfast you get during the week? The Suffield Inn (94 Mountain Road) has a breakfast menu with some rib sticking options as well as some lighter fare. If you are in a rush to get going with your day, offer all of their regular options.

Suffield is known for its farm preservation and open spaces. There are plenty of places to visit if you're looking to get some exercise, enjoy the local environment or soak up a little sun.

(2075 Mountain Road) has 134 acres available to all Suffield residents and their guests. Visitors can stroll through the woods and across the open fields, hike the trails and relax near the park's lake. Kids can use the park's playground and kids and adults alike can fish in a small pond. Bring a picnic basket and enjoy a meal amongst nature.

West Suffield Mountain is another great place to get in touch with nature. A trip to the summit (approximately 710 feet high) along the Metacomet Trail provides a great view of other features along the Metacomet Ridge, including Peak Mountain and Provin Mountain. Birds of prey also migrate along the ridge; so keep your eyes open for eagles, hawks and other large birds.

Both the mountain and the trail can be accessed off of Mountain Road (northbound bound trail) and Phelps Road (southbound bound trail).

Want to cool off after a trip up and down West Suffield Mountain? You're only minutes from the Congamond Lakes, which divide Suffield and Southwick, MA. The major public access point for the lakes is at 93 Point Grove Road in Southwick. A boat ramp, fishing pier, visitor's center and information, parking and bathrooms are all available at the access point. Refreshments are available nearby at Louie B's (101 Point Grove Road, Southwick, MA) and Crabby Joe's (141 Congamond Road, Southwick, MA).

Heading back towards Suffield's town center, visit (1510 North Stone Street) between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays for a bounty of locally made foods and other products, including soap, candles and much more. (472 Hill Street) offers fresh beef, a wide selection of dairy products and other local favorites and is open daily from 8 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. These are just two of Suffield's many active, locally oriented farms.

With final details on the Suffield Farmers' Market still being decided, a visit to Suffield's town green (intersection of Mountain Road and Main Street) on a summer Saturday will provide plenty of delicious, fresh, local and area produce and foods as well.
