Severe Weather Expected Thursday in Suffield

The National Weather Service has forecasted severe thunderstorms for the region that could produce damaging winds, hail and even tornadoes for Thursday in the state. According to early projection maps, Suffield and central Connecticut could feel the brunt of the storm.

Weather Channel's Severe Weather Expert Dr. Greg Forbes says that it's possible that a derecho, a widespread damaging wind event, could be ongoing during the morning hours from portions of New York State to central and southern New England.

Thursday:

Showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm before 1pm, then a chance of showers and thunderstorms after 1pm. Some of the storms could be severe. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 88. South wind 6 to 11 mph, with gusts as high as 22 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70%. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.

Thursday night:

Showers and thunderstorms likely, mainly after 7pm. Some storms could be severe, with large hail, damaging winds, and heavy rain. Patchy fog after 10pm. Otherwise, mostly cloudy, with a low around 72. South wind around 7 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70%. New rainfall amounts between a half and three quarters of an inch possible.
