Labor Day Weekend to Feature 10th Annual Suffield Farm Fest

Plenty of activities for the whole family at Hilltop Farm in Suffield.

The 10th Annual Farm Fest is Labor Day weekend, sponsored by The Friends of the Farm at Hilltop, in Suffield, and organizers have planned something for everyone.

Saturday night features a fund raising “farm to table” dinner and auction at the farm, with live music.  This event is always sold out and is a favorite for those that enjoy good food and a lively evening.

On Labor Day, Monday, Sept. 3, the farm is open for everyone to enjoy some old fashioned fun.  From 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., there are activities for children and adults.  Over twenty exhibitors participate in the event.  During the day there are blacksmith, spinning, knitting and live milking demos.

Back this year are very popular presentations by Julie Anne Collier of Wingmasters on “Birds of Prey”, Adam Harris with “Amphibians and Reptiles”,  Dundee Creek Doodlebug pulls, all going on throughout the day.  Other exhibitors include cheese, felting, herbs, mums, lavender, goat's milk soap, photos, honey, and decorative gourds.  Lots of information about the items and purchases can be made.

There is a children’s area that has farm play, a maze, craft activities and Aspen Hill Farm with pony rides. Favorite contests for adults are the women’s skillet toss and men’s hay bale toss, with a new junior category added last year that will be continued this year.  Back again is a chance for local farmers to show off their tractors, old and new, with them on display during the day and much enjoyed tractor parade at noon.  For the 10th anniversary of Farm Fest, there will be a bluegrass concert by “Shore Grass” from 12:30-3:30 p.m. At the end of the day, participate or watch a giant tug of war.
