Avon Varsity Girls Soccer Bests Suffield 2-0

The Suffield Wildcats lost in a 2-0 shutout at home to the Avon Falcons on Friday night.

The Avon Falcons girls varsity soccer team bested the Suffield Wildcats 2-0 in early season North Central Connecticut Conference action Friday night.

Avon (2-0, 2-0 NCCC) and Suffield (1-1, 1-1 NCCC) entered halftime at Suffield's Beneski turf field the same way they entered the game, knotted up in a scoreless tie. Adjustments at the half led to an Avon victory, with midfielders Britt Douglass and Jenna Donahue launching the ball past Suffield goalkeeper Gabby Arruda.

Douglass broke the ice with a header into an empty net around the 48-minute mark, successfully redirecting a shot banked off the goalpost by fellow Falcon midfielder Catherine Jordan. Donahue’s goal, a graceful long shot that travelled just inches above Arruda’s fingertips into the top right corner of the net, effectively sealed the game with 6 minutes left in regulation for the Falcons.
