UConn, United Technologies Partner to Launch Institute for Advanced Systems Engineering

The Hartford-based firm will give the university $7.5 million up front, with $2.5 million more coming in sponsored research related to UTC projects.

The University of Connecticut announced Tuesday that it was founding a school for advanced systems engineering with a $7.5 million grant from Hartford-based United Technologies Corp. and $2.5 million more promised in sponsorships related to research on UTC-related projects.

The $7.5 million founding gift for what will be called the UTC Institute for Advanced Systems Engineering is one of the largest corporate gifts in UConn’s history.

“We are excited to work with UConn to develop the next generation of engineers who understand how to approach complex systems,” said Dr. J. Michael McQuade, UTC’s senior vice president for science and technology. “The institute will train the innovators and engineers of today and tomorrow, ensuring that we have the people and skills necessary to keep UTC at the forefront of technology.”
