Suffield High School Names Athletes of Month

Each month, Suffield High School chooses Athletes of the Month. These students are commended for their athletic accomplishments, attitude, leadership, sportsmanship, and team spirit.

Suffield High School named seniors Peter Meehan and Brenna Frechette as the September Athletes of the Month.

Senior Brenna Frechette is a four year starter for the Varsity Field Hockey Team and is currently team captain. She made All-conference and All-state Second Team last year.

According to Coach Dan Gatto: "No one I have coached in any sport has a more positive attitude than Brenna.  She is one of the nicest people I have ever met with a truly unique attitude like none I’ve encountered from a teenager.”

Gatto said Frechette is a quiet leader who is sincere and genuine.

"She has meant so much to the program over the past four years and has almost single handedly changed the culture of the team, making it an environment of fun, laughter, hard work and sincerity," said Gatto.

Peter Meehan, senior, has been a member of the Boys Varsity Soccer Team for two years and is nominated for his commitment to his team despite a devastating injury.

"Unfortunately he blew out his knee in the first scrimmage, and in that moment his high school soccer career and personal dreams ended," explained Coach Mark Beigel.

Undeterred, Peter has been at every game and practice since then and his teammates voted him captain.

According to Beigel: “Peter exemplifies what it is to be a true leader and what it takes to be a true teammate.  His actions model an exemplary attitude, leadership, and sportsmanship.”
