Karen Baldwin was selected from a group of candidates following a months-long search process conducted by the board. Lori D'Ostuni, search committee chairwoman, said in a May 5 letter that the board had conducted two rounds of interviews with the finalists for the position at that point.

The finalists' names were not revealed before Baldwin was selected. Cooperative Educational Services, the board's consultant for the rearch, recommended keeping the identities of the candidates secret. The board did take public input about the search in a series of focus groups held on January 5.
