Chamber of Commerce Awards Scholarships to Six Area Students

Six area students received scholarships from the at a Breakfast Connections gathering Thursday morning at .

Secretary of the State Denise Merrill was the keynote speaker. "It is such an important thing to be a good citizen of your world," she said. "We have a new generation that is poised to take the reins of our government, our world, our communities, and we need you to step up. We need you to start dreaming new dreams. Nothing is ever achieved anywhere without some sort of struggle. Progress isn't made by sitting back."

A number of local dignitaries attended the ceremony, including Sen. John Kissel, Reps. Elaine O'Brien and David Kiner, Enfield Mayor Scott Kaupin, Enfield Board of Education Chairman Tim Neville and retiring Enfield Superintendent of Schools John Gallacher.

The scholarship recipients were:

Kristina Green of , who will be attending Western New England University and majoring in accounting;

Samantha Davis of , who will be attending UConn and majoring in accounting;

Alicia DiVito of , who will be attending Southern Connecticut State University and majoring in business administration and management;

Kaylee Gosselin of , who will be attending Western New England University and majoring in accounting and arts and entertainment marketing;

Isabella Isotti of , who will be attending Bentley University and majoring in business, marketing and communications; and

Patience Bearse of , who received the Roxy Burke Memorial Scholarship, and will be attending UConn and majoring in business administration.
