Thursday Night Storm Update from First Selectman Tom Frenaye

Good news for Suffield residents without power from the first selectman.

The emergency shelter at Suffield High School remains open. If you plan to stay for the night, please bring sleeping bags and pillows. Hot showers are also available – you can drop in any time. The senior center is also open during the day and serving lunch.

MREs (Meals, Ready-to-Eat) and bottled water will be available free of charge from 7 a.m. until 8 p.m. on Friday at the fire station at Ebbs Corner in West Suffield, the police station at 911 Mountain Road, the ambulance building at 153 Bridge St., and the high school shelter on Sheldon Street.

CL&P has made significant progress in restoring power in the last 24 hours. More than 1,600 Suffield customers have power, with 4,400 yet to be reconnected (73 percent). Power is on in the Mountain Road business district from Main Street to CVS and out to Park View Glen. Bridge Street also has power. There are more than fifteen crews working in Suffield tonight, with most from Louisiana. Another twenty crews from Quebec are due on Friday morning. This will mean significant progress on the remaining outages should take place on Friday. They will be working westward on Mountain Road tonight and Friday.

CL&P is still saying that 99 percent of their Suffield customers will be restored by midnight Sunday. With more than 30 crews working every day, they just might make their estimated time.

The town landfill is open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. every day this week through Sunday. Fees for the disposal of trees and brush are being waived for the month of November. This does not include construction or other debris.
