Suffield Town Committees Endorse Familiar Candidates for Fall Election

Democrat Tom Frenaye will again Republican Edward McAnaney for first selectman.

Suffield voters will have many familiar names to choose from when they go to the polls in November.

According to a Record Journal article, the Republican Town Committee’s slate remains largely unchanged from the previous election after its caucus.

First Selectman Edward G. McAnaney again won his party’s endorsement. The former town attorney and probate judge runs a private law practice and touts his commitment to keeping taxes low and said he enjoyed the past two years he spent in office.

For Board of Selectman, incumbents Timothy Reynolds and Joanne Sullivan will also seek reelection.

Republicans endorsed Mary Roy and Bob Eccles for reelection to the Board of Education and Board of Finance member Brian Kost and Chairman Justin Donnelly have both been endorsed to run again. Eric Harrington will run as an alternate.

Democrats have endorsed Tom Frenaye to again face McAnaney. Frenaye ran unsuccessfully against McAnaney in 2011, the Record Journal reported.

Frenaye said he would work to improve communication with residents, support the town’s schools and work to develop a long term plan for Suffield. 

Mel Chafetz, a retired elementary school principal and member of the library commission, was endorsed to run with incumbent Brian Fitzgerald.

Skip Edmonds Jr. will run for Board of Finance and Jason Qua and Steve McKeen for the Board of Education. J. Michael Stevens was endorsed as an alternate.
