Suffield Resident Sworn In as Superior Court Judge

Attorney Jason Lobo was one of 15 appointees to the bench sworn in Monday by Gov. Dannel P. Malloy.

Jason M. Lobo of Suffield was one of 15 persons sworn in as Superior Court judges by Gov. Dannel P. Malloy in a ceremony in the Hall of the House of Representatives at the State Capitol Monday.

Lobo, 45, was a Supervising Assistant Attorney General for the State of Connecticut, and previously was a private practice attorney with Spruance & Associates, P.C.

"It's wonderful, it's something that I really didn't think about for a long time," Lobo said in an interview with Suffield Patch just prior to the ceremony. "This is a culmination of a lot of hard work, and I hope to be doing this for quite a long time. It's been a wonderful ride getting to this place."

Believed to be the tallest Superior Court judge in Connecticut history, the 6-foot-11 Lobo played basketball at Dartmouth College, where he received his A.B. He earned his J.D. from the University of Connecticut School of Law, and received his license to practice law in 1994.

"This is surreal, that is the perfect word," Lobo's wife Gundi said following the ceremony, adding that a custom-made robe is being tailored for the new judge.

Lobo's sons Luke, Jared and Mark were in attendance, as was his father, Dennis. His sister, Women's Basketball Hall of Famer Rebecca Lobo, was unable to attend.

Lobo has been assigned to GA-14, the criminal courthouse at 101 Lafayette Street in Hartford. He and the other appointees actually began their new duties last week, "on April Fools' Day," Lobo laughed.

The other new judges are: Michael A. Albis of East Haven; Thomas D. Colin of Ridgefield; Melanie L. Cradle of Middlefield; Karen A. Goodrow of Chester; Sheila A. Huddleston of West Hartford; Robyn Stewart Johnson of Glastonbury; Michael P. Kamp of Hamden; Charles T. Lee of Greenwich; Shelley A. Marcus of Branford; Maurice B. Mosley of Waterbury; Thomas G. Moukawsher of Groton; Andrew Roraback of Goshen; Hope Colleen Seeley of Coventry; and Anthony D. Truglia, Jr. of Stamford.
