Rep. O'Brien Welcomes $100k Grant for Suffield Biz

Kelly Container, Inc. is a beneficiary of the state's Small Business Express Program.

State Rep. Elaine O’Brien (D-East Granby/Suffield/Windsor) welcomed the announcement by Gov. Dannel P. Malloy that Kelly Container, Inc. of Suffield will receive a $100,000 grant from the state’s Small Business Express Program (EXP).

The Small Business Express Program was created as part of the Jobs Bill approved last October which was supported by Rep. O’Brien and is designed to assist small businesses to expand and create jobs.

Kelly Container, Inc. of Suffield specializes in portable, reliable and professional refrigeration and freezer containers. It will use a $100,000 matching grant to purchase machinery and equipment, expand its product line and enhance its marketing. The project will retain ten jobs and create one additional position.

“This is good news for Suffield and Kelly Container, an important small business in our region,” Rep. O’Brien said. “It is critical that we continue to support our small businesses which are the backbone of job creation in Connecticut. As an advocate for small business I thank Gov. Malloy for making this investment. We must continue to send the message that small businesses matter.

The EXP program will provide $100 million to help the state’s small businesses hire more employees and fund capitol investments. The program is administered by the Department of Economic and Community Development (DECD).
