With a 116-27 vote, the state House of Representatives approved on Thursday night the and three major holidays, according to the Hartford Courant.
Gov. Malloy's broader proposal , bars to remain open until 2 a.m., and liquor stores to stay open until 10 p.m., however, was rejected.
“Tonight, the House voted in favor of one of the most significant changes to our state’s blue laws in recent memory," Malloy said in a statement released by his office. “Under the current law, we lose millions of dollars over the border every Sunday. It’s a bad policy that inconveniences consumers and makes businesses less competitive. But after tonight, there will be an additional 55 days where sales will be permissible. It’s a good first step."
The bill will now go to the Senate and, if approved, will be sent to Malloy's desk for his signature. If approved, stores would be allow to sell liquor for the first time on Memorial Day, Independence Day and Labor Day.
