Rabies Clinic to Offer Inexpensive Option

Pet owners in Suffield and East Granby will be able to get their pets vaccinated for only $20, a significant savings.

Suffield and East Granby have combined the two town’s animal control officer position. The towns will host a combined rabies clinic on June 2 at the East Granby Public Safety Complex (7 Memorial Drive, East Granby).

Animal Control Officer Angelo DiMauro is excited about the positives of the rabies clinic, the first major effort by the newly combined department. He praised the efforts of clinic volunteers from the Suffield Veterinary Hospital and was happy about the benefits for animals that will be vaccinated.

“Both towns are saving money,” he said, also noting that residents are saving as well, as rabies vaccinations can cost much more than the $20 charged by this clinic.

DiMauro said that West Suffield Mountain creates a unique path of wildlife in the area, including the towns of Suffield, Granby, East Granby and Simsbury. His experiences as an animal control officer in Windsor Locks were much different than in Suffield and now East Granby.

The clinic is being organized as part of the animal control office’s efforts to provide “prompt, professional animal control services” and promote public safety.

Although the clinic will be held in East Granby, DiMauro encouraged Suffield residents to attend.

“This is their clinic too,” he said.

If this first clinic goes well, DiMauro hopes to implement a yearly clinic rotating between Suffield and East Granby.

Vaccinations will cost $20, to be paid in cash only, on June 2 from 10 a.m. to noon. To receive a three-year vaccination certificate, residents must bring their animal’s previous certificate. Otherwise, they will only be eligible for a one-year certificate.
