Suffield Man Charged After Fatal Motorcycle Crash

Head-on collision between Kevin Ayers' car and a motorcycle killed Patrick Cyr.

A Suffield man whom police believe was responsible for a 2012 accident that killed a local man and severely injured his wife, has been charged with negligent homicide.

Kevin Ayers, 45, of 279 South Grand St., was charged with negligent homicide with a motor vehicle, failure to yield, and failure to use a seatbelt last month after a police investigation.

According to police, Ayers was driving a 1993 Honda northbound on South Grand Street and attempted to turn into his driveway, when he struck a motorcycle that was in his path.

Ayers' car struck the motorcycle head on and the two occupants, Patrick Cyr and his wife Martine, were thrown from the vehicle, suffering serious injuries, police said.

Cyr was alert at the scene and even told police where his cell phone was and instructed them to call his brother. Martine was unconscious. Both were transported by Life Star to Hartford Hospital, where Cyr later died of his injuries.

Ayers has pleaded not guilty, according to the Connecticut Judicial website. His next pretrial date is scheduled for Aug. 21.
