A drunken driver has a "bumpy" ride while traveling home in Vernon with his Chinese food, police said.

Should Have Called for Delivery

The case: Police charged a Vernon man with driving under the influence, evading responsibility, and failure to maintain a proper lane, according to police.

The twist: Police said that the accused left a trail of destruction behind him after driving while intoxicated after picking up his Chinese food. During the drive home to Vernon, the man hit some trees, knocked over a fire hydrant and a cable utility box, which cut out TV for nearly 500 customers, police report.

The 13th DUI Is the Charm

The case: Police charged a Middletown man with operation of a motor vehicle with a suspended license, driving under the influence with prior convictions, and failure to drive upon the right, police report.

The twist: The man had previously been convicted for a dozen other DUIs, police said. The man reportedly drank almost an entire 30 pack of beer before heading out onto the road, according to police.

Hide and Seek: Police Edition

The case: Police report that they charged a Middletown woman with risk of injury to a child.

The twist: The woman, who police said was heavily intoxicated, hid with her 5-year-old child in the closet while police knocked on the door, and eventually broke it down, police report. Officers responded to the residence after receiving a hangup 911 call, police said.

Heavy Metal Larceny

The case: Police report that they charged two Bristol men with larceny in the first degree, conspiracy to commit larceny in the first degree, conspiracy to commit criminal trespass in the third degree, criminal trespass in the third degree, conspiracy to commit criminal mischief in the third degree and criminal mischief in the third degree. 

The twist: The men stole 39,000 pounds of tool-grade metal from a Southington business to sell at a scrap yard, police said.

Must Be Worth A Lot of Nickels

The case: Police charged a New Britain man with third-degree burglary and third-degree larceny, police report.

The twist: The man stole 2,800 pounds of crushed aluminum cans from his workplace, Thames River Recycling, police said. The cans were worth $2,240, police report.
