Police Searching Connecticut River For Possible Jumper

Update, 5:16 p.m.

Deputy Chief Gary Collins said shortly before 5 p.m. that rescue personnel had not recovered any bodies from the Connecticut River. The car that had been discovered on the Enfield/Suffield Bridge early Monday morning has been impounded. State police divers did not enter the water due to the strong current, police said. No further information was available.

Original Story

The state police dive team and helicopters are searching the Connecticut River in Enfield for a person who may have possibly jumped off the Enfield/Suffield Bridge.

Police Chief Carl Sferrazza said an Enfield officer discovered an abandoned car on the bridge Monday morning. A note was found inside the car indicating the person may want to harm themself, Sferrazza said.

The chief said he had no further information at this time.

I saw the car and the cops on the bridge this morning. I was wondering what was going on. How awful. I sure hope that person didn't jump.
