Bourque Arrested on Marijuana Charge

Granby police captain and Suffield resident arrested in child porn case also arrested on state marijuana charge.

Granby Police Capt. David Bourque, arrested last month on a federal charge of possession of child pornography, also faces a state marijuana charge, according to court records.

Bourque was arrested April 26 on a charge of possession of less than 4 ounces of marijuana, a misdemeanor. Court records indicate the marijuana was discovered April 11, the date federal and state authorities searched Bourque's Suffield home and his office at the Granby police station in connection with an investigation into child pornography.

Bourque's case was one of 27 arrests made as a result of Operation Constant Vigilance, an investigation into child sex exploitation that included local, state, and federal authorities.

Bourque served as a captain with the Granby Police Department for the past 18 months, officials said.  He worked in the Suffield Police Department for 30 years until his voluntary retirement in 2009.

Bourque was hospitalized shortly after the search. The reason, according to WFSB Channel 3, was a suicide attempt.

Bourque appeared Tuesday April 26  before federal Judge Thomas P. Smith in Hartford on the charge of child porn possession. No plea was entered. He was released on bond and returned to the hospital. If he is released from the hospital, he is subject to several conditions.

He must receive mental health counseling, have no Internet access, and have no unsupervised contact with children under the age of 18 without first receiving permission from the probation office. He is not allowed to hold any position of authority or guidance over children or youth groups involving children who are under the age of 18, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office.

Bourque was released on a promise to appear in court on the marijuana charge. He is due back in Enfield Superior Court on June 9 for arraignment.
