Patch's Poll: Should An Employer Have Access To Your Facebook?

Employers are increasingly seeking access to employees' social media pages - what do you think about this? Take our poll and add your thoughts in the comments.

The national debate over whether employers have the right to demand access to their workers' social media pages heated up again this week when news surfaced that "a teacher’s aide is fighting her suspension from a Michigan school district job because she refused to give the superintendent her Facebook password," according to the San Francisco Chronicle website.

Last month, Facebook warned it could seek legal action against employers who ask job applicants to reveal their Facebook password because that violated the social network’s terms of service.

The American Civil Liberties Union says this kind of request is illegal. Connecticut Sen. Richard Blumenthal says he will fight this practice by introducing a bill.

What do you think? Take our poll and add your thoughts in the comments.

Would an employer follow us home on the weekends? I think not. Unless you find a name in the police blotter, a private life should stay private!

Employers are beginning to use Yammer a Facebook spin-off for corporate networking, so the question is a little out of date. The best suggestion, don't put anything in FB that would jepordize you relationship with your Company, your friends, your family or would make your Mother upset.

Employees should NOT be accessing Facebook at work! No personal business should be conducted on the job. Your employer owns the computer system you are using and it's for business. What you do outside of work is your business. What you share about your employer and their company is their business. Be sensible in your actions. You are responsible for what you do.

That is why I bought an Iphone so I could get my personal email during the day when I was at work and not be on an employer's network.

That is big government...a socialist society in a nutshell, isnt it? Hello Mr. Obama...well, my Pop was a marine in WWII...my Gramps in WWI...what the hell did they fight for if we were going to end up ignoring our constitutional rights...I dont think the young people of today realize the danger of playing this game.
