Only Two Weeks Left For This Season's Suffield Farmers' Market

The market's last date in 2011 is Oct. 8.

The Suffield Farmers' Market is getting ready to close down as the growing season comes to the end, but there are two Saturday mornings left to get local and fresh fruit, vegetables, baked goods and more.

Fall staples like apples, squash, potatoes, sweet potatoes and Bushy Hill Orchard's cider and cider donuts are available, according to market master Kathy Dunai-Thibedeau. She said Bielonko Farms still has sweet corn, the last crop of the season.

"It's probably one of the sweetest crops," she said.

Cheeses, including goat cheese, pies and mums are among the varied products still available from area farms during the last few market sessions.

Dunai-Thibadeau said the market is a great opportunity for those recieving WIC assistance to use WIC farmers' market coupons, which expire on Oct. 31.

The coupons can only be used at farmers' markets, farm stores and roadside stands to purchase "a variety of fresh, nutritious, unprepared, locally grown fruits, vegetables and herbs," according to the USDA's Web site.

The Suffield Farmers' Market is open Saturday, Oct. 1 and Saturday, Oct. 8 from 9 a.m. until noon on the town green, rain or shine.
