Storm Damages Historic King House Museum

Thursday's thunderstorm caused part of a large maple tree to fall which damaged Suffield's King House.

Suffield’s historic King House Museum was damaged by pieces of a maple tree torn free by Thursday night's thunderstorm.

The exterior brick of the house's chimney was damaged and two large holes were made in the west side of its roof. The white picket fence, along with portions of the porch roof, were also damaged.

Suffield Selectwoman Eileen Moncrief said the tree fell around 5:30 p.m.

A crew was still working at 7:30 p.m. to cut the tree to access the damaged areas and increase sidewalk accessibility. A blue tarp had been placed over the holes in the building on 232 South Main Street to prevent water damage.

Yellow tape currently surrounds the unsafe areas.
