UPDATE: 91 Percent of Suffield Without Power, Some Stoplights Not Working, Mountain Road Businesses Closed

The snow is falling in Suffield and 91 percent of the town's CL&P customers don't have power. The roads are dangerous and slippery at best and impassible at worst.

UPDATE: Suffield is mostly in the dark as 91 percent of the town's CL&P customers are without power. The power outage is affecting stoplights on Route 159 and Mountain Road, among other areas.

Highland Park Market was open late Saturday afternoon but businesses on Mountain Road were closed, including the Food Bag, Suffield Inn and the entire CVS plaza. The Suffield Fire Department one of the few sources of light on the road.

Suffield police were at intersections on Mountain Road and Route 159, directing traffic and trying to keep drivers orderly and on the right path. At least three cars were spotted spun off the road on Bridge Street and Route 159.

The Suffield Players had earlier resolved to hold their last performance of Wait Until Dark, their fall production, but cancelled the showing as conditions worsened.

The roads in Suffield are wet, snowy and will continue to be dangerous as the storm moves through the area. The National Weather Service predicts a total accumulation between 10 and 14 inches Saturday night into early Sunday morning. The high temperatue Sunday is predicted to be 43 °F with some light snow.

Original Story: Suffield is feeling the effects of the fall snowstorm as 20 percent of the town's Connecticut Light & Power (CL&P) customers are without power. Suffield police reported no road closures or major accidents due to the snow around 3:30 p.m. Saturday.

The Suffield Players are still holding their last performance of tonight at Mapleton Hall unless the state closes its roads. Most town businesses not affected by power outages are open.
