Halloween Trick-or-Treating in Suffield is a Go

Unlike in 2011 when a freak snowstorm crippled the region, Hurricane Sandy could not keep trick-or-treating from happening.

Happy Halloween! Possibly despite the best efforts of what is beginning to seem like an annual weather event on Oct. 29, trick-or-treating is a go in Suffield.

"No reason for the kids to forgo the Halloween fun unless the weather does not cooperate," First Selectman Edward G. McAnaney wrote in an email Tuesday night.

Town Clerk Elaine O'Brien concurred, saying, "Yes, it's still on" in a text message Tuesday.

Residents who choose to go out Wednesday are urged to use caution when walking throughout town. As of 5:30 a.m., there are still 333 CL&P customers, or 5 percent, in the dark in town. Be careful of any down trees and never go near down wires.

Elsewhere in the state, New Haven, East Haven and West Haven have postponed Halloween until Nov. 7 in their shoreline communities and Stonington is mulling over rescheduling trick-or-treating to Nov. 16, according to various news reports.
