Business Profile: Suffield Discount Smoke Shop
The new shop in the CVS plaza offers a wide variety of tobacco products.
Nestled in the CVS plaza next to the Enfield Savings Bank, the Suffield Discount Smoke Shop offers a variety of tobacco products and related accessories. The shop opened in January and according to store manager Sim Peer, business has been picking up.
Though this location is the first smoke shop the owners maintain, they have experience in retail with a grocery store in Westfield, MA.
“They selected Suffield,” Peer said, “because it was a nice, quiet town and did not have a smoke shop.”

Originally from India, Peer currently resides in nearby Windsor Locks.
Besides a full selection of regular- and generic-brand cigarettes, all sold at state minimum prices, the Suffield Discount Smoke Shop also carries more exotic products. Premium cigarettes and Canadian and other foreign imports not often found at a convenience store. Peer said they would special order any requests from customers for brands they do not carry.

In addition to cigarettes, the shop offers a variety of more obscure tobacco-smoking methods including the increasingly popular hookah. A favorite of the caterpillar from Alice in Wonderland, the Middle Eastern water pipe has steadily developed a following in America with hookah bars popping up across the country.
The shop also offers the electronic cigarette, an alternative to smoking which is also gaining in popularity.
The most distinguishing feature of the shop, however is the climate-controlled humidor room. Using humidifying equipment, the shop keeps the room at the recommended temperature and optimal humidity for premium cigars.
Its collection is extensive and growing with special orders from customers. And for those with a yen for a literal “local flavor,” they carry several varieties of cigars utilizing Connecticut tobacco.
“Our specialty is in our variety,” Peer said, insisting that anything smoking related could be found in his shop.
Lighters, pipes, incense, cigarette cases, ashtrays and all manner of supplies are readily available at reasonable prices.
