Staged reading Jan 27 at Kent Memorial Library

The Suffield Players  present the next installment of our popular “Page to Stage” series of staged readings on January 27 at Kent Memorial Library. The January offering is two short plays: Here We Are by Dorothy Parker, and A Pair of Lunatics by W.R. Walkes.

Here We Are features a pair of newlyweds attempting to adjust to their new status as they ride a train to New York City, where they’ll spend their honeymoon. The young bride picks fights with her new husband about everything from his respect for her family to whether he likes her hat, all in an effort to avoid the question of what happens once the wedding night begins.

A Pair of Lunatics poses a fish-out-of-water scenario in which a man and woman have, separately, been convinced to attend a dance at an insane asylum. They each creep away from the party to take a break from the “insane ramblings” of their dance partners. When they encounter one another, they each assume the other is yet another lunatic and they take great pains to humor one another’s “delusions.” The misunderstandings and fabrications mount until it seems as though there isn’t a sane person in the room!
