German Philharmonic Orchestra

"An opulent, passionate orchestra," according to the Mannheimer Morgen, the German State Philharmonic (Deutsche Staatsphilharmonie) is the cultural ambassador of Germany's Rhine-and Palatinate. The imposing orchestra's 88 members from 16 countries perform 90 concerts each season and have toured throughout Europe and South America. They have also performed with world-class soloists, leading dance companies, and even silent movies. The magnetic French guest conductor, Philippe Entremont, was among the 10 world-class pianists chosen to perform in the "Piano Extravaganza of the Century" at the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games. According to the Washington Post, in its first national tour of the U.S. "Entremont and his orchestra conjured up a joyous whirlwind of sound that ultimately launched the music blazing into the ether." Program will include, Oberon Overture, Weber, Concerto for 2 Pianos, No. 10, K. 365, E-flat Major, Mozart, Symphony No. 4, G Major, Mahler.The show will begin at 8:00pm, and a Concert Talk by Michael Lankester will precede the event at 7:15pm.
