State Historian to Share Civil War Stories at Kent Library

The State Historian of Connecticut, Dr. Walt Woodward, is stopping by Suffield's Kent Memorial Library on Saturday afternoon to share stories on the Civil War. This former folk singer, country music composer and award-winning jingle writer brings the tales of the war to life with music and gears his presentation to all ages.

"It's a great family event," said Beth Chafetz, president of the Friends of the Kent Memorial Library which sponsors the event.

Dr. Woodward will entertain guests immediately following the Friends of Kent Memorial Library Annual Meeting at 3 p.m. at the Kent Memorial Library Auditorium.

"We want to share the Friends of the Kent Memorial Library with the community," explained Chafetz. "There is a brief meeting where will will review the Friends successful last year and preview what's coming up. Dr. Woodward will keep us all entertained and then we will have a refreshment reception."

The FOKML funded $35,000 worth of children's and adult programming as well as improvements to the library last year.

"Without these extra resources, many of the programs and events at the library just would not happen," said Chafetz.

Funding comes from the annual book sale during the Suffield on the Green event as well as generous donations, big and small, from the community.

Joining the FOKML officially means $5 a person or $20 a family. Registration cards can be found at the library and the Friends will gladly accept donations/registrations during the annual meeting.

Come join the FOKML for the day or for the year.
