"Flu Shots Plus" Features Programs On Food Stamps, Veteran Aid, Organizational Skills

A packed schedule at the Suffield Senior Center provides a bevy of services for senior citizens today.

Senior citizens from Suffield and the surrounding area can get flu shots, learn about government food assistance, veterans pensions and reducing clutter today at the .

"Flu Shots Plus" offers five separate programs focused on improving the quality of life for area seniors. It is presented by the senior center and the Suffield Emergency Aid Association.

Flu shots, performed by technicians from Walgreen's pharmacy, are available from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Most insurance programs are accepted and shots cost $27.99 when paid for privately.

"SNAP" will educate seniors about eligibility for the government's Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), formerly known as food stamps. It runs from 9:15 a.m. to 9:45 a.m.

"From Clutter to Clarity" gives seniors tips on creating more functional and simpler living environments and arrangements. Group leader Rick Woods will address physical organization in the home, maintaining organized schedules and keeping track of paperwork with the goal of creating a healthy, balanced and enjoyable space. It runs from 10 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.

The "Veteran Aid and Attendance Pension Program" session, led by Paul Azevedo, will give attendees information about this little-known pension program that benefits military veterans as well as their surviving spouses. It runs from 10:45 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.

Mary Ertel leads a community drum circle from 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. Drumming lowers blood pressure, relieves stress and generally increases the well-being of participants. Have some fun after your flu shot with this group event.
