20th Annual Glenn T. Packard Memorial Golf Tournament to be Held Friday

More than 150 players will gather for the Suffield Rotary's golf tournament at the Oak Ridge Golf Club in Feeding Hills, MA.

Friday marks the 20th annual Glenn T. Packard Memorial Golf Tournament at the Oak Ridge Golf Club in Feeding Hills, MA.

The tournament, a charity event organized by the Suffield Rotary, attracted more than 160 entrants this year and the demand for spots was greater than the supply.

"We are very happy that the community is able to support us, especially in today's economy where tournament attendance seems to be down," said Rotarian and tournament co-chairman Paul Pace.

With an entry fee of $125 and revenue generated by raffle prizes, the tournament is a prime fundraiser for the organization. The funds generated will be used to promote local charities and functions, "essentially youth sports and scholarships" according to Pace.

The Rotary recently spearheaded the construction of a refreshment facility at the with help from the Packard Memorial fund.

The raffle prizes this year include a weekend trip to the University of Notre Dame football game against Air Force, four box seat tickets to see the Boston Red Sox battle the Oakland Athletics, and a 32-inch LCD high-definition television, among others.

The Rotary has been in charge of organizing the tournament since 2005. The tournament is played in honor of Glenn T. Packard, a local man killed in an automobile accident in 1992. Packard's father Warren is a member of the Suffield Rotary. This year would mark Glenn Packard's 50th birthday.

The Glenn Packard Foundation is always accepting donations, and anyone wishing to make a donation can contact the Suffield Rotary.

The and the Dowd Realty Group are co-sponsoring golf shirts that will be distributed to all participants of the tournament.

The event kicks off with a breakfast at 7:30 a.m. Course play begins with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m. Players will be treated to a buffet lunch at the end of the 18 holes. They will also have five opportunities at winning a prize of up to $10,000 by sinking a hole-in-one.

Pace has been with the Suffield Rotary for 10 years and has been director of the tournament for the last six years. Scott Seabury serves as co-director of the the event.
