Four Suffield 4-H’ers won Best in Show at the Tri County 4-H Food Show, February 1 at the Greater Hartford UConn Campus.  Ten year olds Katie Smith, Mollie Kuszaj, Jessica Wachs and Amanda Fearn created the “Healthy Cowgirl Hoedown Cookout” menu to complement the competitions picnic theme.

Each 4-Her was responsible for creating a portion of the menu that included Katie's Farm Fresh Crunchy Vegie Deviled Eggs, Donkey Kick Cornbread with Jalapenos, Jessi's Heavenly Cowgirl Salad with Cilantro-Lime Oil Dressing, Molly's Healthy Turkey Chock-full-of-Vegies Chile and Amanda's Corn-on-the-Cob Carrot Cake Cupcakes with Cream Cheese Icing.

Katie Smith also won Best in Show for the Cupcake Decorating Challenge for her decorating skills, gluten free vanilla cup cake recipe and utilizing eggs from her own chicken.

The panel of judges included Chris Prosperi, Metro Bis Restaurant, John Turenne, Sustainable Food Systems, LLC.

The Food Show provided participants with an opportunity to present, display, and explain about the nutritional food they prepared and cooked as well as use some of the additional skills they may have learned in the 4-H food and nutrition project.
